V.S.Sidak, V.S. Stepankov “From the history of Ukrainian intelligence and counter intelligence bodies” (the essays) - K., The Institute of SBU, 1995 – 201p.

The book is the first attempt to make a comprehensive study of formation and development of the Ukrainian intelligence and the counter intelligence bodies. The subject of research is the Special Services activities in the period from 1648 to 1654 and from 1917 to 1920. It was in this time that the Liberation Movements of the Ukrainian people achieved the highest level and burst into the Revolutions.

Although the Movements passed in different periods, they had a joint aim – proclamation of independence of Ukraine. Formation of special services occurred in the very time of revolutions.

The special services played rather important role in the process of protection of national interests of Ukraine. Common features of secret services formation as well as assigned missions similarities gave the authors opportunity to unite the main parts of the book into a meaningful plot.
