russia’s Logistics Is Stalling: Transport Shortages and Isolation Are Deepening
11/2/2025

russia’s economic problems, caused by the war against Ukraine and Western sanctions, keep deepening. In addition to rising costs, a shortage of carriers, and loss of access to European ports, the closure of the border between Lithuania and belarus has jeopardized transit to Kaliningrad.
The rb has proposed an alternative route: cargo will be delivered by trucks to warehouses in several belarusian cities, and from there – by train and ferry. Official minsk claims that the scheme will reduce delivery times to ten days and ease tensions at the border.
However, this “rescue” option cannot compensate for the consequences of international isolation. russian logistics companies remain in a state of chronic transport shortages, lack of spare parts, rising fuel prices, and lack of access to key markets.
Despite statements about expanding cooperation with Africa, Latin America, or the Middle East, these directions will not be able to replace the lost European markets.
The closure of western borders and political isolation only emphasize that the war against Ukraine is gradually destroying russia’s economy. lukashenko’s attempts to support moscow do not resolve the problem – they only plunge belarus deeper into the crisis created by the kremlin.
