Quite often, he has to deliberately pass disinformation to the enemy in order to win a battle, and sometimes – to change the course of history. One of the first such spies was the Ukrainian national hero Mykyta Galagan. On behalf of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, he consciously accepted torture and death to disorient the enemy about the number and location of Cossack troops and led the enemy army into the thicket, which allowed the Cossacks to attack from a favorable position and eventually win the battle.
