Even according to official data from belarusian authorities, socio-economic policy remains the weakest area of the lukashenko regime’s work.

According to a survey by the institute of sociology of the national academy of sciences of belarus, conducted in July–August 2026, 73.5% of respondents gave a positive assessment of the authorities’ efforts to maintain a stable socio-economic situation. 10% gave a negative assessment, whilst a further 16.5% were undecided.

This is the lowest result among all the spheres put forward for assessment. Even regional development received a higher rating – 75.4%. By way of comparison, 90% of those surveyed rated internal security positively, 89.8% rated the maintenance of peace positively, and 87.6% expressed trust in lukashenko.

In other words, even in a survey conducted by a state-run sociological institute on the order of the belarusian institute for strategic studies, the authorities could not demonstrate high levels of support precisely in areas relating to people’s everyday lives.

This is an especially  awkward result for lukashenko’s regime. His long-standing model is based on a promise to maintain stability and provide social guarantees. Yet it is precisely the socio-economic situation that received the lowest rating.

If even the official figures, compiled under conditions favourable to the authorities, yield such a result, the actual state of affairs in this sphere is far worse.
