russia Is Stepping up Development of Maritime Unmanned Systems

The ministry of defense of the rf has established an interagency technical council for the development of unmanned systems and technologies for maritime use. Its task is to speed up the development and deployment of maritime unmanned systems in the rf’s armed forces, including unmanned boats and drones.

The council will focus its activities on supporting the development of various types of unmanned boats – “katran” and “skvorets vmf” unmanned boats, grk 700 “vizir” heavy unmanned boat and additional technological solutions that can be used to develop maritime unmanned systems. These include the “germes” communication system, the “ploschad” and “orbita” software and hardware systems, a universal ground control station for unmanned boats, etc.

The ministry of defense of the rf has set specific deadlines for the implementation of these projects: by August 31, 2025 – selection of the most promising technologies; by October 31, 2025 – functional testing of selected developments by the rf’s navy; after that – formation of a state order, launch of mass production and official adoption of new equipment.
