While the kremlin leadership continues to drag out the war, ordinary russians and businesses are increasingly experiencing its devastating consequences firsthand, without any support from the state. Instead of providing real assistance to russians whose property has been damaged by drones or russian air defense systems, the authorities offer either token handouts or simply wash their hands of the matter.

In krasnodar, for example, residents of a damaged building were awarded compensation of just over 15,000 rubles. The residents called this amount a mockery and a disgrace, since it is impossible to buy even a single window with that money, let alone to have it installed.

russian businesses have fared no better. In orel region, authorities have openly stated that there will be no direct payments from the budget to cover entrepreneurs’ losses. Instead of compensation, they are being told to take out loans. In other words, businesses affected by the war are being driven into additional debt that they will still have to repay.

Realizing that the state won’t protect anyone, large corporations have begun to officially absolve themselves of responsibility. The “wildberries” marketplace has updated its terms of service, explicitly stating that it will not compensate sellers for the cost of goods lost or damaged as a result of drone attacks, shelling, and “explosions”. Even russian businesses are shifting all war-related risks onto the shoulders of ordinary sellers.

russian authorities are willing to sacrifice the well-being, property, and future of their citizens for the sake of continuing hostilities. russians should not expect help from officials who hide behind paperwork and absurd excuses. The most reliable and only way for russian citizens to keep their homes, cars, and businesses is to face reality and demand an immediate end to the war.
