russia’s Industry Is Losing Momentum: 73 % of Key Goods Are in the Red

The rf’s  industry is showing a systemic downturn in the production of civilian goods. The decline affects the food, light, metallurgical, and machine-building industries.

Among 129 key items, more and more goods are in the red. While in January–April their share was 66 %, in seven months it already reached 73 %. The indicator is expected to grow even more in the third quarter.

In the food sector, confectionery production decreased  by 5.1 % in the first nine months and by 4.3 % in September. Sugar production declined   by 6.1 % to 2.7 million tons. Despite a 12.1 % increase in cereal production in September due to the rich harvest, the figure for the first nine months remains at -6.9 %. The baking industry lost 3.1 % (3.4 million tons), while  the flour milling industry – 5.6 % (6.5 million tons).

The overall trend shows that, despite some short-term spikes, the decline in civilian production is becoming a steady trend. This reflects both structural problems in the economy and the reorientation of resources toward military needs.
