The Cost of Car Repairs in russia Has Rocketed 2.5 Times – the Car Fleet Continues to Age
12/13/2025

The cost of car repairs in russia from the end of 2022 to April 2025 had risen 2.5 times – to 50–55 thousand rubles, and has increased by another third over the year. For owners of old cars, this means constantly increasing financial pressure.
Demand for Chinese and local brands remains weak: russians stick to Western brands, and the average age of the car fleet has reached 16 years. Old cars require ever-increasing investments, and the trend toward rising costs shows no signs of slowing down.
“russian parallel imports” do not resolve the problem: complex logistics and delivery times of 45-60 days have reduced the share of original spare parts to 20 %, while the share of counterfeits has grown to 30 %. The automotive industry has reached an impasse.
New car sales remain at critically low levels: 1.23 million cars were sold in the first 11 months of 2025, which is by 19 % fewer than in the previous year. To stabilize the car fleet, at least 2–2.2 million sales per year are needed, and to rejuvenate it – more than three million.
The forecasts for 2026 are not encouraging: 1.2 million sales are expected, while the new rules on disposal fees only increase the financial pressure on car owners and fill the state budget. The result is obvious: russians will keep their old Western brands even longer, and the country’s car fleet will continue to age and become more expensive to maintain.
