EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has announced that the European Union has extended the mandate of the EU’s EUMAM Training Mission for Ukrainian military personnel for a further two years.

Norway will allocate 25 million kroner (EUR 2.3 million) to locate and repatriate Ukrainian children deported by russia, as well as to assist prisoners of war and civilians deprived of their liberty.

Canada is providing nearly $640,000 in aid to Ukrainians who have suffered under russian captivity and occupation.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset has condemned the recent series of russian attacks on Ukraine, in particular the strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. “Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, in particular with our colleagues at the Kyiv office, who continue to stand up to these attacks with courage and determination. We will continue to press for russia to be held to account for its crimes. Impunity will not prevail,” said Berset.

“Ukraine urgently needs stronger air defence and much stronger pressure on russia,” said the EU’s Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternová against the background of an increase in the number of russian strikes on Ukraine.

“putin’s regime has struck a blow against Ukraine’s largest research institution: the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. These strikes are yet further evidence of the russian regime’s hostile disregard for science and truth… We share the pain of the victims and their families,” said President of France Emmanuel Macron.

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk has warned of very difficult weeks and months “linked to russia’s extremely aggressive stance towards Ukraine”.

During a visit to Bratislava, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Johann Wadephul called on Slovakia to support more actively the EU measures directed against russia in connection with the war against Ukraine.

“We call for humanitarian access to the area to be ensured, and this must be provided in accordance with international humanitarian law – without any discrimination and without hindrance. Civilians must be allowed to leave combat zones, and they must be able to do so safely and voluntarily,” said European Commission Spokesperson Eva Hrnčírová, emphasizing that the EU considers the humanitarian situation in Oleshky, which is temporarily occupied by russia, to be unacceptable.

“Ukrzaliznytsia” has received a further five pick-up trucks and five goods vans from Germany for repair teams working to restore the railway infrastructure.

EU Ministers of Defence have, for the first time, discussed a new emergency security protocol that would set out actions and responses to hybrid threats from russia – acts of sabotage, airspace violations, arson and so on. “Such a mechanism would ensure coordination in responding to attacks in the grey zone and would complement the current Article 42.7”, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has pointed out that drone incursions into Alliance territory indicate an “evolution in the nature of the threat”. “We are strengthening our integrated air and missile defence system”, the NATO Secretary-General emphasized. According to him, the Alliance also has “options” for responding to hybrid attacks by the rf.

Estonia’s Security Police have established that the arson attack on the Milrem Robotics defence company building in Tallinn on the night of 15 August was an act of sabotage ordered by russian secret services.

The Swiss concern Nestlé, which has already lost control of six factories in russia, intends to seek the reversal of the transfer of its business to temporary administration in russia.

Humo Bank in Tajikistan has required its russian customers to undergo in-person biometric identification by 30 September in order to continue using their cards; otherwise, the cards will be blocked from 1 October.

Paper exports from russia fell by 17% compared with the previous year. The ministry of industry and trade of the rf has published the rates for the technology levy on electronics.
